Youth Yellow Pages - Relationships

With Family - Relationships with family can become strained. At this point in your life, you want to spend more time with friends and are looking for more independence. At the same time, your parents may feel like you are not spending enough time at home and may be concerned about giving you too much freedom. These difficulties along with other family dynamics may cause chaos in your family at times. It may actually seem like anytime you have contact with your family, an argument follows. Some conflict with family can be expected at this point in your life. However, family counseling may be helpful if relationships become really strained.

With Friends - Relationships with friends are extremely important. Friends can help us through the tough times and are around to celebrate the good times. As youth, finding a group of friends to hang out with through the good and the bad is important. However, sometimes it can be too important and we make negative decisions just to fit in. Remember, you have a mind of your own. You are the only one responsible for your actions. If you are uneasy about doing something your friends are pressuring you to do, you can always make the decision to say no.
