FirstLink Opportunities

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Administrative Volunteers

Volunteers, 16 and older, assist staff with administrative duties which may include data entry, answering phones, making calls, copying , filing, and helping with bulk mailings.

Data Collectors

Visit or call nonprofit agencies, clubs/organizations, and support groups to obtain and update information about their services for FirstLink’s database.

HotLine Phone Staff

Volunteers, 18 and older, are trained to answer information and referral, listening and support, and crisis intervention calls on FirstLink’s 24-hour HotLine (235-SEEK), Suicide Line (232-HELP), and crisis contract lines.

Commitment (minimum 1 yr. or 96 hours)

completion of initial 46 hr. training

2 or 3 hr. day and evening shifts available

Resource Center Volunteers

Volunteers, 16 years and older, will provide assistance in organizing and maintaining the FirstLink Resource Center.

Commitment (minimum 6 months)

flexible scheduling

training provided in part by Fargo Public Library staff

Internships

FirstLink also offers non-paid internships to college students in a number of areas, including marketing, speaker’s bureau, web design, and human service fields.

Short-Term Opportunities

Short-term opportunities include a periodic need for some task, a short-term need for specialized skills, or a need for help with a one-time-only event. Some of these can be done at home. Some can also be group placements.

Bulk Mailing Volunteer

(youth volunteers accepted)

Help with tasks that are part of a large mailing: folding, stuffing, labeling, sorting, etc.

Directory of Community Services Editor

Edit the Directory of Community Services to ensure clear, concise, and consistent agency descriptions. This work may be done at home.

Season of Hope Opportunities

Data Entry Volunteers

(October through December) Data entry of information from applications for clothing and toys for families in need.

Giving Tree Volunteers

(November through December) Work at a giving tree booth to recruit sponsors and answer questions about the Holiday Clearing Bureau services.

Gift Distribution Event

(December) Come one, come all, and help at this joyful two day celebration! Volunteers of all ages are welcome to assist in this event, where Holiday Clearing Bureau recipients receive their holiday gifts. This is a great family or group volunteer activity!

None of the above seems to fit? Work with us to identify and examine your skills and interests, likes and dislikes to determine what kind of volunteer opportunity fits you and where it might fit FirstLink. For example, serve on a special project.
